welcome to the men's seniors section
Welcome

Wednesday Morning Competitions

There are formal competitions organised by the Section Committee for almost every Wednesday morning throughout the year. The format for these varies from team competitions to individual qualifiers. A diary of events can be found on the Section’s notice board in the locker room. Entry to the competitions and entry fee varies according to the competition format, as does the value of the prize vouchers for the Professional Shop.
Team and Cup competitions are drawn teams or pairs and entry to these is via online booking. You may request an early or late start if your time is constrained. You will be advised of your playing partner(s) and tee time before the event.

Merit Jug Series and Individual Cup competitions are individual qualifying competitions and entry is online or via the Professional’s shop.
Knockout CompetitionsDuring the summer there are two knockout competitions, The Bill Welsh Cup for individual match play and the Terry Cross Cup for foursomes match play. Entry for these competitions will be advertised and the entry sheets will be posted on the Section’s desk.

Inter-Club Matches

We play approximately 30 matches against other local Norfolk Golf Clubs, mainly on a home and away basis. Any male Senior Member is welcome to make themselves available for selection by putting their name on the list displayed on the notice board. Selection is made on the basis of all wishing to participate having their fair share of games with preference given to those who can play both the home and away fixtures for each club.

he matches are followed by a meal with dress code specified for each occasion. Players are requested to wear white polo shirt (badged shirts are available from the Pro’s shop) and black or navy blue trousers and sweater during the game. The main aim of these matches is for all participants to enjoy the occasion.

Social Functions

In addition to the social functions organised by the Club the Section Committee organise two evening events a year for our partners and ourselves, The Summer event is more informal and the Autumn event a formal sit down meal with entertainment in November. All details of these functions are publicised well in advance by e-mail and on the Section notice board.

Keeping Abreast of ActivitiesThe Section notice board and the Men’s Senior Section on the Club website are the best places to find information about what is going on. You can also ask for your e-mail address to be added to the Men’s Seniors Section mailing list so you will be kept informed of key events. Let our Contacts Co-ordinator or any Committee member know your e-mail address.

The Men’s Seniors Section Committee look forward to meeting you and hope you will soon be taking part in the Section golf and social activities. Names of Committee Members are posted on the Section notice board and any one of them would be pleased to help you join in.

2026 Calendar
To simplify the process for all concerned, all Wednesday competitions are entered via the BRS Tee Booking System.

Following the closing date [Sunday 2pm], tee times and partners will be re-booked to reflect the draw performed by the Competitions Secretary [Neil Harrington]. The new times will be automatically sent out by BRS in the familiar way. [Note this does not apply to Individual Competition bookings which will not be amended]

Booking will open no more than 30 days in advance as per usual. For drawn games please book a slot for your preferred tee time. The draw is usually made by the Competitions Secretary on the Monday morning preceding the Wednesday Competition. The Competitions Secretary will then try and allocate you a slot as near to the time you have requested - where possible. Participants revised tee times, and playing partners, will then be uploaded onto the BRS system by the Pro Shop.

Online booking closes at 2pm on the Sunday preceding the Wednesday competition. Please ring Neil Harrington on 07399 202262 email: [email protected] if you discover you are unavailable after on-line booking closes.  If you need to call off on the morning of the competition, please call the Pro Shop on 01263 823488 opt. 1

Information about upcoming competitions can be obtained from the website diary which reflects what is scheduled in the Tee Booking System.

merit jug 2026
Introduction

The Merit Jug series for 2026 is over 10 competitions with the best 7 to count. Competitors may choose which colour tees to play from on the day of each round.

In the event of a tie on the overall number of points the highest individual competition scores to count as decider.
Entry is open to all Seniors, but you must have a Competition Handicap to have your score entered in the series and to receive a prize.
After Round 4
inter-club matches
The Seniors Committee have the following preferences when selecting Members to play in inter-club matches. These are that Members wishing to play should:

Be participating in Seniors competitions and therefore be known to the Committee and the Team selector.
Show a commitment to play in more than one match against other clubs.
Preference will be given to players available to play both home and away legs of matches, but applicants for individual legs may still get selected depending on demand.

Matches are generally played with morning tee-times which are prime periods of demand for Clubs. Participants are expected to be able to keep a good pace, targeting a four hour round for a 4BBB match. This will be a consideration during selection. In some limited cases, WHS caps have been set by or agreed with other Clubs to maintain a standard/pace of play for these friendly but competitive matches. Any known WHS limits will be highlighted during the selection process.

Dress code on Course (Home & Away): White shirt, navy trousers/shorts, navy pullover (as appropriate). Sheringham Golf Club insignia on clothing where possible.

Dress code in Dining Room (Home): Smart Casual - shirt with collar and full length trousers. Players must change out of their golf clothing.
Notices for each match will be posted approximately 4 weeks before the match and teams selected 2 weeks ahead of the date of the match. All the matches are scheduled below.

Please ensure that you are at the venue at least 30 minutes before the 1st Tee time to meet your playing opposition and to allow for any changes in the starting order.
